I have been too busy to go to Lisbon so I didn’t found anything new.

I found the processes of the Inquisition on the site of the Torre do Tombo, and I didn’t found anyone with the name of our family, I suppose this is good ... in some point.

I got the impression that the records we need are scanned and online at the site, but they seem to be individualized, and that means you have to view them one by one, it’s an horrible job to do, so I prefer to go to Lisbon and annoy the workers directly. I hope people are nice overthere. Don’t forget to send me an email, so that we can talk and I can reach you with some news.

Ah! This blog is very alive, it’s simply updated veeery slowly for obvious reasons. However I'm always looking forward to your comments!

Well, unfortunately I don’t bring you any news, because I haven’t had much time to devote myself to this research.

But I had been in Beja’s Archive, and discovered that I’ve lost all my data on dates and numbers of accents in the parish books, so I could’t do much, and had to look to all the information again. I learned my lesson! Now I have everything organized and a copy of the accents so that I don’t lose any more time due to a person whose registration I lost.

My goals have changed too, I left the brothers and sisters of my direct family to my mother to look for, and I’m giving all my attention to the demand of the first person with this name.

We also discovered some interesting things for the maintenance of the parish books and sources to find people. First, the books that’re in poor condition are taken to the Torre do Tombo in Lisbon to be preserved and digitized, but the TT does not send any copy of those to the Archives in the Districts, which requires people to go to Lisbon to continue their search.

Second, we have the process of the Inquisition (available somewhere on the site of Torre do Tombo), which allows searching by name, if there is a process we have access to several generations of the family in one place.

I also updated my account on the site My Heritage, I had too much information there and I started it again.

Good night

Finally an update! I took my two visits to Beja to go to Destrital Archive, to make a breakthrough in the family tree.
I was well attended by the lady responsible for the consultation room, and she helped me with a lot of words that didn't understand, which I thanks, because I don't have much practice. I sited near an outlet and started the laptop to access the program where I've the tree, My Heritage Tree Building (or something like that ...) and encountered me with a big problem: how do I start ? I began to invent, the lady gave me some help on how to find people, and I got to the year of 1860 thanks to the fact that all this decade have an index.
I admit my weakness, I am no expert in doing family trees, so I don't know how to do it and whom should I put there. I suppose that is a knowledge that I will have to acquire with practice ...
However I did some progress, and I can show you what I have for now. Please excuse me for being write by hand, but it was the best I could do. HERE
In the decade of 1860 some people still lack their grandparents so I couldn't add them to the tree:
- Barbara, born in 1862, daughter of Manoel Pires Ragagelles and Mariana Rita;
- Manoel, born in 1860, son of Manoel Pires Ragagelles and Ritta Marianna / Jesus;
- Maria, born in 1861, daughter of José António Ragagelles and Barbara Maria;
- Maria, born in 1862, daughter of José António Ragagelles and Barbara Maria;
- Ritta, born in 1861, daughter of Antonio da Cruz Ragagelles and Maria Isabel.
(the year of birth may be the right or it's the following year of the birth where the child born, if the kid borned in Dezember, the parents could have registed him only in January).

Facts: almost all of the men are from the village of Serpa, the women often come from a village on the outskirts.

Hello

First of all I want to apologize for my English, and because of that ignore all the errors and other stuff.My name is Liliana C. Ragageles R. D. Silva, I'm from Portugal, and since I was little I was intrigued by the name Ragageles, I grown up, and that intrigue changed for a true curiosity.
I decided to create this blog with the hope that it could be found by someone with this unusual name, so that we can reunite the max of information about this family.
By know I don't know much about this name, but is origin is in some point is Serpa for everyone, and that's not only on Portugal thanks to many people that have emigrated to other countries like Spain, Brazil and Australia.
About the question: From where is the name Ragageles? I have no idea. But there are a lot of theories about it, some say it is spanish, others that is celtic and others that is muslim, but the truth is in every name's list that can be found at the internet, the name is not there, for that, the mystery continues to the day someone find the same with this name.
I had began doing the family tree, that I will put here, any questions that you have, any information that you whant to share, please don't hesitate.
